Is Sarah Palin the first nominee on a major-party presidential ticket whose daughter got pregnant out of wedlock? Or is she just the first whose daughter didn't get an abortion? The reason you're reading about Bristol Palin's pregnancy is that she's taking it to term. If she had aborted it, you'd never have known.
I note they are not asking if any candidates son's "knocked up" (their lovely term, not mine) any girls while their dads or moms were running for the Oval Office. Plus, exactly why is ANY of this anyone's business outside of family.
What about the children of democratic candidates?
I would think AlGore's son driving a 100 MPH intoxicated is a bigger story than someone being pregnant. He could have killed people.
I'd be more interested in how many candidate mistresses got pregnant as in the case of John Edwards.
As for Chelsea Clinton and Amy Carter, who would even want to have sex with them?.

To answer your title, yes and no.
Inasmuch as significant things, like graduations, arrest, babies are reported as news, it's permissible. It's when the media tries to use them like Britney Spears, or as a tool to rip the politician that the line is crossed. What is a story is how the politician reacts to the story, and whether they follow the principles, ideals, and beliefs they espouse. So far, Sarah Palin has passed the test.
Oh, and I'd do Chelsea now. But part of that would be to nail an ex-president's daughter for bragging rights. ;)

It's pretty simple, when you champion conservative causes like abstinence only in your state and yet your teenage daughter gets pregnant it kind of proves that they conservative logic has failed yet again. And if McCain was trying to win over the family values voters with this pick and this pick obviously hasn't taught her daugher not to put out to the local redneck when she was 16 years old thats not what I call family values. Otherwise, you are right, families should be left out of it. And I would love to compare the family values of the Democrats in this election to the Republicans. Biden was sworn in the the Senate at his childrens hospital bedside after his wife was killed in a hospital accident. Neither has been divorced or cheated (as far as anyone knows) on their wives or raised kids to get knocked up before they turned 18.

I was waiting for Obama's response to this before I passed judgment about it. He messed up trying to answer for it, which means he knew what he was saying. But I won't complain. I'll just wait for the McCain-Palin lipstick pig bump to hit the polls.
